Clinical Faculty Preparation Course

Upon completing the course, Clinical Faculty will earn 30 nursing contact hours and be able to:
​
  • understand the expectations as to the key foundational constructs of the position, coordinate a seamless and robust clinical orientation process for faculty & students,
  • plan and facilitate interactive pre-clinical conference sessions to evaluate a student’s preparation for clinical assignments and pro-actively anticipate and address clinical issues that may arise and effectively manage students post-clinical conference sessions,
  • evaluate and write a formative and summative evaluation based on course competencies and criteria, and implement success strategies for engaging unsuccessful nursing students based on written legal & ethical guidelines.

What will be addressed during this online 3-week faculty-led course:


​Lesson 1:  Introduction to the Role of Clinical Faculty

Explore the role and responsibilities of a Clinical Faculty and understand the expectations as to the key foundational constructs of the position.

Lesson 2:  Making Connections with Clinical Agency Partners
How best to engage with the clinical agency partners to facilitate a seamless and robust clinical orientation process for faculty & students.
 
Lesson 3:  Selecting Student Learning Experiences & Use of Pre-Conferences
How best to align relevant assignments based on course objectives to plan and facilitate interactive pre-clinical conference sessions to evaluate a student’s preparation for clinical assignments.

Lesson 4:  Guiding Student Learning Experiences and Use of Post-Clinical Conferences
Adopt best practice teaching and learning strategies within the clinical setting, develop interventions to pro-actively anticipate and address clinical issues that may arise, and effectively manage students post-clinical conference sessions.

Lesson 5:  Formative and Summative Evaluations
Perform student clinical evaluation and guidance for how to write a formative and summative evaluation based on course competencies and criteria.

Lesson 6:  Ethical & Legal Considerations in Clinical Nursing Education
Awareness and understanding of legal considerations related to clinical education and implement success strategies for engaging unsuccessful nursing students based on written legal & ethical guidelines.
